Dexamethasone Suppression Test |
A dexamethasone suppresion test is performed when assessing a potential overproduction of steroid hormones.
The initial test is a 1mg overnight test. The tablets are often provided as 0.5 mg tablets and you must therefore take both tablets. The tablets should be taken between 11 p.m. and midnight. The next morning a blood test is required between 8 and 9 a.m. to assess your cortisol level. It is important that you ensure that you can get to the hospital for the blood test and I recommend that you phone the hospital the day before to ensure that there will be someone available to take the blood test at the appropriate time. |
