Synacthen Test |
A synacthen test is performed to assess the body's steroid hormone reserve.
The steroid levels can fluctuate considerably during the day and from day to day. Sometimes to be sure that your body can produce sufficient quantities of steroids it is necessary to stimulate the adrenal glands. Synacthen is a stimulating hormone which is usually administered in the morning. It is given as an injection. A blood test is performed immediately prior to the injection and then again 30 minutes and 60 minutes later. You are able to go home immediately after the test. |
